    The onlookers to her burial were few compared with the millions who witnessed her death. They were a small crew of respectful landscapers, a reverent, sometimes tearful Kentucky Derby Museum staff and, from across the courtyard and behind a fence, the museum's resident Thoroughbred, Phantom on Tour, and Winston, the miniature horse.

    Genuine Risk, one of three fillies to win the Kentucky Derby, died Monday at the age of 31. A statement from Newstead Farm of Bert and Diana Firestone said she died peacefully shortly after being turned out in her Upperville, Va., paddock.

    It probably wasn't the shoe. A photo of Big Brown at the start of his Belmont flub showing his horseshoe separated from his right hind hoof looks startling. Mike Iavarone, co-owner of Big Brown, apparently thought so when somebody showed it to him.
